No film director’s dream, this Galilean town:
an ordinary place.
Do you think I put it down?
Why, no!
It is to ordinary men he came,
to share their ordinary lives,
that they might be his kith.
A Hebrew girl His herald knew.
A girl? No more than fifteen, it would seem.
What herald?
An angel bright? A shaft of light? A simple certainty?
We do not know.
But humility and trust are clear,
even in her question,
“How can this be? I know not man.”
An ordinary town is Nazareth,
with ordinary men who could not hear a Prophet’s Words.
Yet extraordinary for every age,
for here He came to live and love,
for ordinary sakes.
